As the summer of sport continues, next weekend sees the 146th Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport.

For golf lovers, owning a home near to a golf course is extremely appealing, living in a well-maintained, tranquil setting with their favourite sport right on their doorstep. Meanwhile, properties near to golf courses can attract significant premiums.

We looked at house prices around the top ten golf courses of England and Wales according to Golf Monthly. On average, properties sold in 2017 in the area surrounding the golf courses sold, on average, for 39% more than the wider district area average.

The greatest premium was for properties sold near to the Royal Liverpool club on the Wirral where prices were 78% higher than the Wirral average. Properties close to Sunningdale Golf Club attracted an average premium of 73% over the Windsor and Maidenhead average.
